Jeffrey Ertel

Jeff Ertel served as Landscape Superintendent at Facilities Management at the University of Virginia from 1987 until 2002. He holds a bachelors degree in botany and a masters degree in horticulture from the University of Nebraska. A longtime member of the Arboretum and Landscape Committee at the University, Jeff contributed greatly to numerous landscape projects throughout the grounds.

Larry Steward

Larry Steward served as Assistant Director of Landscape in what was then known as the department of the physical plant, for the University of Virginia from 1970 to 1987. During this time, Larry and his crews planted and transplanted hundreds of trees on the University's grounds. Many of the specimen or unusual species of trees existing today were planted under Larry's tenure. Larry holds a bachelor's degree in horticulture from Ohio State and a masters degree in horticulture from Virginia Tech. He currently teaches at Ohio State University, but also taught during his time in Virginia at Piedmont, Tidewater and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community Colleges.
