|Leonard Sandridge joined the University of Virginia's Administration in 1967 as a member of the internal audit staff. In 2011, after 44 years of extraordinary service to the University, he retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, a role he officially accepted in 1993. Between 1967 and 1993, Leonard held positions of University Comptroller, Treasurer, Director of the Budget, Executive Assistant to the President, Vice President for Business and Finance, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Though retired, he continues to serve the University in the role of Special Advisor to the University. Leonard served on active duty in the U.S. Army and as an officer in the US Army Reserve. He has served on numerous civic boards and committees in the Charlottesville region, including boards of the Chamber of Commerce and the University's Foundation and Investment Management Company and the Culpeper Regional Hospital. In 1993, Leonard was presented the Thomas Jefferson Award, the University's highest honor for a faculty member, given to recognize one who exemplifies Jefferson's principles and ideals in character, work and influence.
