Robert O'Neil, University of Virginia President from 1985-1990, now directs the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression. He also teaches constitutional and commercial law and is an expert on the First Amendment. O'Neil began teaching in law in 1963 at the University of California-Berkeley. He served as provost of the University of Cincinnati, vice-president of Indiana University and president of the statewide University of Wisconsin system.
