Ben Howland was a faculty member of the Department of Landscape Architecture at the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia where he taught design studio and such challenging classes as Roads in the Landscape, Grading and Drainage and Surveying. He was an accomplished designer, surveyor and artist. The annual Howland Design Competition is held each year through the School of Architecture in his honor.
